Jesus challenged us to truly care for each other. Years ago,
the Society of St. Vincent de Paul was founded by people who cared about the
problems of those around them, by people whose concern galvanized them into
ACTION. We still care, and we would like you to care with us.
How do we
care?
We visit people at home and in hospitals.
We
give advice, money, food, clothes and other items to those in need.
We give dignity and hope to the poor, the lonely, the alienated.
We try to make this world a better place by meeting Christ in them.
Would you like to join St. John's Society of St. Vincent de Paul? Our
goal is to meet the practical needs of those in our parish and the
Collingswood community who are experiencing temporary hardship through
sickness, loss of job or other unforeseen circumstances. Thanks to your
generosity we are able to provide small sums of emergency assistance
towards unpaid bills, provide emergency food bags, or assist with other
needs as they are presented to us. We meet on the third Tuesday of each
month. For more information call 856-858-1444.
Sandwich Making: Monday, September 21 at 7:00 PM in the school
cafeteria. Please bring a donation of meat, cheese and bread.
Sandwiches are brought to the Cathedral Kitchen in Camden on Tuesday
morning.
Regular Monthly Meeting: Tuesday, September 22 at 7:00 PM in the
Parish Center. We welcome you to come and help us serve those in crisis
in our local community.
It doesn't take long for people entering St. John's Church to appreciate
our beautiful stained glass windows. Even more impressive than the
handiwork and colors, is the Christian narrative that each window
relates. This past year, parishioner Rolland Coutinho studied the
windows and researched the figures and symbols so that we could better
understand what the windows teach us.
The Saint Vincent de Paul Society is proud to offer Rolland's
photographs and scriptural references in an attractive assortment of 13
blank note cards. We will be selling after all the masses on the
weekends of September 13 and 20. The cars sell for $12 and all proceeds
will go towards our efforts to help those in crisis in our community.
Over the summer we have received many calls for help and our funds are
rapidly depleting. We hope you can support our efforts.
