Children's Liturgy of the Word

St. John’s Parish will celebrate the Children’s Liturgy of the Word pn Sunday, September 23 at the 11:00 Mass. It will be celebrated each week, except for the Sundays when we have a Family Mass.

Following the counsel of the Vatican's directory on Children's Masses, the American bishops have encouraged parishes to use The Children’s Liturgy of the Word so that they can hear the Word of God proclaimed in language they can understand and so come to love and be formed by that Word.

The children begin the Mass with their families. At the time of the readings, the children leave with an adult leader and go to the Parish Center where they hear the readings proclaimed from the Children's Lectionary. There is time for a reflection on the readings. They also recite the Creed and join in the Prayers of the Faithful. They then return to the Church and join their parents for the liturgy of the Eucharist.

Through the years, we have noticed that children are learning to listen to the readings more carefully and to be able to talk about their meaning. We encourage you to give your children the opportunity to experience Jesus in the Mass in this very special manner.
